Toys? We don't need no stinkin' toys!

We have a big beautiful playroom in our new house. It's the only room upstairs and is as large as the 2-car garage it sits above. There is an extra-large paned window that brings in the sunlight and a sloped-sided ceiling that matches the roof line. There are high quality, durable, wooden toys that are gender neutral, open-ended, and aesthetically pleasing. Like any former early childhood educator worth her salt, I have made sure the room is organized with a "place for everything"--labeled containers, low shelves, child-size tables and chairs, quiet play areas separated from active play areas... There is still work to be done before it will be how I have imagined it to be, but it's not too shabby right now.

And where, you may ask, do my children like to play most in this fabulous room with it's school quality wooden unit blocks, double-sided paint easel, 3-story dollhouse, Papa-crafted train table, and deluxe red "retro" play kitchen?? Let's have a look:
The laundry room with new front loading washer and dryer.
Inside the empty shelves of the t.v. armoire.
The classic empty box.

Not one, but two, count em two blogs!

Following my sister's lead...
I've started a new blog--gigimama's year in photos. I'll be posting a pic a day. I cheated a bit trying to fill in the days I missed, but so far so good. Check it out here: www.gigimamainpajamasyip.blogspot.com

My Baby is Two!

I'm not sure why Will burst into tears when we lit the candle and started to sing "Happy Birthday", but I think it may have had something to do with the clump of frosting in his hand.

He managed to recover with a little encouragement from Mama and didn't spit too much while trying to blow out the candle.

Then the real fun began. Mmmm boy, do we love cake around here.
So much so, we'll snag some more off your plate if you're not quick enough to stop us. Happy Birthday Little Man Will!

On the First Day of Christmas...

Timing is everything. Another obstacle in getting the perfect picture, in this family, is the State of Will's Face. The nomiker "bruiser" would fit him well. So, we made it to Christmas Eve with a clear, bruiseless, scratchless, chapped-cheek-free face...until about 6:30 a.m. This happened while taking a header off the bed and meeting the bed frame on the way down--ouch! Poor Will. He is forever donning the proof of the wonderful wild way he plows through life.

Taryn is here!!! We are so loving having Big Sister here to read and play with! She's also great for drawing, wrestling, and cuddling. Taryn crafted these awesome wall hangings of the Littles' names. I'll try to get a good picture of them and post later.
Santa brought us our long-awaited kitchen! Ben is still in shock that it's all his. He keeps asking if he can "open the microwave" or "put pizza in oven"! Yes yes yes, cook away! Will, so far, likes to cook his trains. He moves them in a bowl from one door to another--open, close, open, close, open, close....
While getting white tights for Ella Rose to wear on Christmas Eve, Taryn and I couldn't resist getting these feetie jammies for the Littles. If we could have squeezed Taryn into the red ones, we would have bought some for her, too. Just for the photo. :)

We're looking forward to the next 11 Days of Christmas...
Grandma and Papa will be here through the New Year!
Stay tuned...
